Enhancing Rural Livelihoods through Sustainable Integrated Fish-Vegetable Production (Aquaponics)
Donate NowAffordable Energy
Project Objective
To improve livelihoods and food security by promoting sustainable fish and vegetable production using solar-powered aquaponics and empowering women and youth with technical and business skills.
Our Approach
Aquaponics merges aquaculture and hydroponics in a closed-loop system that conserves water, recycles nutrients, and reduces environmental waste. Advocate Plus localizes this system using solar pumps and community cooperatives.
Key Activities & Highlights
- Demonstration Farms — Built 5 community farms in Bo District.
- Training — Trained 500 farmers (60% women) in aquaponic management.
- Women & Youth Cooperatives — Formed 3 women-led producer groups.
- Nutrition Education — Promoted fish-vegetable diets for improved health.
- Environmental Stewardship — Reduced water use by 90% compared to traditional farming.
